Rejections

Apple reviews every submission, and some are sent back. A rejection is a message in App Store Connect and an email, and it names the guideline Apple applied. Nobody can promise that Apple approves an app; Apple decides.

Where Apple says it

Apple explains a rejection in the Resolution Center of App Store Connect and sends an email. Apple's API exposes that a submission was rejected but not the reason, and it has no way to read or answer the message, so reading and replying happen on Apple's pages.

A Pending Termination Notice

A Pending Termination Notice warns that Apple may terminate your account. It is not a rejection of one app, it has a short window and one appeal, and it has its own card. The Apple page puts it before everything else.

Paste the email

The Paste an email from Apple panel on the Apple page takes the text of Apple's email. It tells you in our own words what kind of email it is, such as a rejection notice, a review status update, an agreement update or a pending termination notice, and moves your step on the road when the email changes it.

  • It reads only email that comes from Apple, and says so when it does not.
  • It refuses a paste that contains a private key, so a key never lands in a message.
  • It does not repeat the paste back to you.

The cards for each way forward

A rejected app has its own cards on the Apple page, each with the click path in Apple's labels:

  • Apple's turnApple rejected your app: open Apple's message and read which guideline it cites.
  • Your moveReply to App Review and resubmit: answer in the Resolution Center, then submit again. A reply alone does not put you back in the queue.
  • Your moveAppeal to the App Review Board: one appeal for each submission, for when you believe the rejection is wrong.
  • Your moveAsk for an expedited review: for a critical bug fix or a dated event, once the submission is in the queue. Apple does not guarantee it.
Note
Do not cancel the submission before you reply, because that closes the thread. Answer a request for information from Apple before you consider an appeal.

Scheduled

These do not exist yet. Each one names what it waits on, and none has a date.

  • ScheduledAn explanation of the rejection in plain words: which guideline applies and whether it concerns the store page or the build.
Waits on: a decision on how rejections are read that keeps the free Apple checker free of network calls.
  • ScheduledA planned fix, a rebuild and a drafted reply to App Review for you to read and send.
Waits on: the reading of rejections above, and the pre-submission checks of the Review Readiness screen.
